The Secret History of the Hellfire Club

The Hellfire Club (in English: Hellfire Club) were several private clubs frequented by the elite in Britain and Ireland in the 18th century. It was at its most illustrious time chaired by Sir Francis Dashwood. His meetings were presumed to be prodigal drunkenness and sexual orgies and, according to popular beliefs with less foundation, satanic cults and black magic rituals. The meetings of the Hell's Club were held in the Abbey of Medmenham, on the banks of the River Thames. These clubs had a re
