V ito the Pug was named “Best in Show” at the 2024 National Dog Show, becoming the first pug to win the honor in the two decades since the contest first began airing on TV.

A young pug made history this Thanksgiving by becoming the first of its breed to earn the top prize at the 2024 National Dog Show.

Vito the pug has been crowned best in show at the 92nd annual National Dog Show – the first time a pug has won the title in at least two decades.

The pup became a sensation when he won best in show at the competition, which was broadcast on Thanksgiving Day. One judge said the 2-year-old is “everything a pug should be.”

Vito, the No. 1 pug in the country, also won best of his breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show before strutting his stuff to emerge victorious at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia ’s dog show. The Pennsylvania competition happened last week and was telecast after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC, as it has been for 23 years.

America has an unlikely breed as its new national dog champion. For the first time in at least two decades, a pug has been crowned best in show at the 92nd annual National Dog Show Presented by Purina.

Vito the pug won this year’s National Dog Show, winning the “Toy” category and beating out more than 1,900 other canine competitors.
