Prosecutors said Calin Georgescu, whose win in the first round of a presidential election was annulled, is the subject of “criminal proceedings” linked to incitement.

Romanian prosecutors said on Wednesday they had launched a criminal investigation against Calin Georgescu, the far-right frontrunner in last year's cancelled presidential election, over several accusations including promoting antisemitism.

Far-right populist Calin Georgescu, who won the first round of the annulled presidential elections in Romania last year, is accused, among other things, of promoting antisemitism and spreading false information.
