U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. military on Thursday to immediately resume testing nuclear weapons after a gap of 33 years, minutes before beginning a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Russia said it tested a nuclear-powered cruise missile and torpedo, two of its experimental weapons, in recent days.

The National Nuclear Security Administration urgently asked the White House for funds to prevent the agency from having to furlough its staff, sources told CNN.

Britain must look at sharing nuclear weapons with Germany to counter the “critical” threat posed by Russia, defence chiefs have said.
