Iskcon has remained in the headlines since the arrest of its former member Chinmoy Krishna Das last week on sedition charges in Bangladesh. The religious organisation’s spokesperson in Kolkata has claimed at least three other Hindu monks have been arrested by the Bangladesh police.

Over 1,000 monks from across West Bengal are taking part in a demonstration at the Petrapole border in North 24 Parganas on Monday to protest against the attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, and the release of arrested spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in the neighbouring country.

The authorities cited "suspicious travel" as the reason for their refusal, although the ISKCON monks were not provided with clear explanations.

ISKCON distances itself from Das, who, it says, was expelled from religious organisation earlier. He was arrested on charges of dishonouring Bangladesh's national flag.
