Cyclone Fengal is approaching Tamil Nadu's coast, bringing heavy rainfall and rising tides. The IMD warns affected regions, with the cyclone expected to make landfall on November 30, packing winds of 70-80 km/h.

The Tamil Nadu govt has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai and surrounding districts on Saturday due to Cyclone Fengal. IT companies are urged to implement work-from-home on Nov 30.

Cyclone Fengal will likely become a cyclonic storm, causing heavy to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu. Schools in 11 districts, including Chennai and Puducherry, will be shut on November 29 and November 30.

As it approaches land, the system is expected to weaken into a depression with wind speeds ranging from 45 to 55 km/h, gusting up to 65 km/h.

With the weather department predicting heavy to very heavy rain in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, the District Collectors of Chennai and Chengalpatu on Friday declared holidays for educational institutions in these two districts.

On the day of landfall, severe rainfall is expected in seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and neighbouring areas. Delta and northern interior districts are also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

The Cyclone is currently located in the Bay of Bengal and is forecasted to track west-northwest, making landfall near Puducherry tomorrow (30.11.2024) around noon.
