The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo were named World Athletes of the Year on Sunday after they both scooped multiple medals at the Paris Olympics. Hassan won the women's marathon in an Olympic record time of 2.

Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands and Letsile Tebogo of Botswana were named World Athletics Athlete of the Year award winners for 2024. Hassan won marathon gold and 5000m and 10,000m bronze at the Paris Games.

Olympic champions Letsile Tebogo and Sifan Hassan were named male and female athlete of the year at the World Athletics Awards in Monaco. Tebogo, who was also named male track athlete of the year, became Botswana's first Olympic champion in Paris when he won the 200m in an African record time of 19.46 seconds.
