Officials in Kyiv are increasingly losing hope that Ukraine will enter the military alliance any time soon, with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump proposing to delay Ukraine’s NATO membership for at least 20 years as part of a potential peace deal with Russia.

NATO countries will likely sidestep Ukraine's call to provide the embattled country with an invitation into the military alliance during the upcoming NATO Foreign Ministerial Meeting on Dec. 3-4, Reuters reported,

NATO is highly unlikely to heed Ukraine's call for a membership invitation at a meeting on Tuesday, according to diplomats, dashing Kyiv's hopes of a political boost as it struggles on the battlefield and awaits Donald Trump's return to the White House.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also urged NATO leaders to immediately approve the uncontested parts of Ukraine for membership.

(Reuters) -Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has urged his NATO counterparts to issue an invitation to Kyiv at a meeting in Brussels next week to join the Western military alliance, according to the text of a letter seen by Reuters on Friday.

Andrij Sybiha, the head of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has requested NATO members to extend an official invitation for Ukraine to join the Alliance. According to a report by the Reuters agency,

Ukraine has called on NATO to issue an invitation to join the Alliance at the summit scheduled for December 3-4 in Brussels, according to Reuters. In a letter seen by the agency, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha addressed his NATO counterparts.
