St. Louis Blues hire former Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery for same role
Just five days after the Bruins fired Montgomery, the St. Louis Blues announced that they’ve hired him as their next head coach. The Blues relieved Drew Bannister of his duties and signed Montgomery to a five-year contract to become the 28th coach in franchise history.
Montgomery calls events that led him to coaching Blues, ‘crazy, crazy’
St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong called Montgomery soon after he was fired by the Boston Bruins on Nov. 19, laid out a plan, told the coach why he had to be a part of it, offered a five-year contract and that was pretty much that.
Of the current 23-man active roster, 14 Blues players were around when Montgomery was an assistant back in 2021-22.
