After approving $23 million to help repair the Tampa Bay Rays' hurricane-shredded roof at Tropicana Field late last week, the St. Petersburg City Council reversed its decision several hours later.

The Tampa Bay Rays are having all sorts of trouble getting the local government to help them build their new ballpark, and they are also having trouble getting their current one fixed.

The St. Petersburg City Council reversed course on Thursday and won't be spending money to repair the Tampa Bay Rays' existing stadium after approving it only two hours before. The council also voted to delay a vote on bonds to finance a new home for the team,

Two hours after voting to spend about $24 million to start repairing hurricane-damaged Tropicana Field by replacing the ballpark’s roof, the St. Petersburg City Council on Thursday voted a second time and decided to halt that plan.

Tropicana Field could be ready to host the Rays again by 2026 if the city is comfortable spending $55.7 million to fix the damage done by Hurricane Milton.
