Due to the Fengal cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu's coastal districts. The low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. It is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen into a cyclone tomorrow.

Rains lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, and the India Meteorological Department said the depression over Bay of Bengal has formed into a deep depression and it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on November 27.

NDRF teams mobilized in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as cyclonic storm approaches, heavy rainfall expected until 28 November.

The system is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, with potential landfall along Tamil Nadu's coast by the end of the week.

As Tamil Nadu faces the threat of heavy rainfall due to a depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal, the state government has mobilized disaster response teams and issued safety advisories to ensure public safety and emergency preparedness.

In its update, the IMD said on 'X': "It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm on 27th November. Thereafter, it will continue to move north-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast skirting Sri Lanka coast during subsequent 2 days.

The weather department has issued a red alert for Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam. Several other districts are under orange alert.
