Kaizer Chiefs had the better of proceedings at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane as they beat Richards Bay 2-1 in their Betway Premiership clash as they rose to sixth on the log.

Kaizer Chiefs technical team has given the majority of their fringe players a chance to prove themselves against Richards Bay FC.

Goals in either half by Wandile Duba (21st minute) and Ashley du Preez (68th) ensured Chiefs avoid a second successive home defeat after their 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in September, before the Fifa and Carling Knockout final break.

Instead, Brandon Truter’s Richards Bay continued to look utterly listless, and a fine goal from Ashley Du Preez effectively killed off the away side. If this form continues, Truter may also find his job is dead in the water. A stoppage time header from Yanele Mbuthuma gave Chiefs some nervy final minutes, but they hung on for the three points.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently in seventh place on the league table with seven points from five matches and are looking to move up the table.
