The shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers were in a dogfight with the Utah Jazz on Sunday night and escaped with a narrow 105-104 victory to begin their road trip.

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz on Sunday with a little help from Utah coach Will Hardy. The Lakers took a 105-102 lead on a LeBron James jumper with 41 seconds remaining before Walker Kesler cut the lead to one on the ensuing possession.

Markkanen led Utah with 22 points and seven rebounds, and John Collins added 21 points and nine rebounds. Kessler had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and it was his putback layup with 31 seconds remaining that cut the Lakers' lead down to 1.

However, Sexton's game-winner was called off due to Jazz head coach Will Hardy calling a timeout right before the shot went in. Ultimately, many fans believe that the Lakers avoided trouble, but Davis believes he was never concerned about Sexton's attempt.

With 8.1 seconds left to play, trailing by just one point, Sexton had the ball in his hands heading down the court. Sexton crossed halfcourt on the right side of the floor then crossed over to the left side.
