Lamoriello, the Islanders GM, has a big decision to make on pending UFA Brock Nelson before the deadline. Is he tipping his hand?

A league source told Staple that "all options for Nelson are on the table," meaning he could sign an extension, be traded, or finish the season without a new deal and enter negotiations once his expiring 6-year, $36 million contract ends on July 1.

The New York Islanders snapped their four-game skid two nights ago in TD Garden against the Boston Bruins. The win came despite the Bruins outshooting the Islanders 39-20 and ultimately dictating play most of the night.

The Islanders play their final game before the Deadline on Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets at UBS Arena (7:30 p.m. ET; MSGSN, TSN3), their last chance to convince general manager Lou Lamoriello not to trade pending unrestricted free agents such as forwards Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri for potential future pieces.

Kevin Kurz of The Athletic: (mailbag) It does make some sense that the Philadelphia Flyers would be interested in a top-line center like Elias Pettersson but he does come with some big question marks. He’s also got an $11.6 million cap hit for seven more years. All things considered, that’s likely too much for the Flyers.

The NHL trade deadline is March 7 at 3 p.m. ET, and although some names have already been moved, plenty of impact players are still out there.
