(Reuters) -The Texas health department reported 223 measles cases in the state on Tuesday, an increase of 25 cases from March 7, nearly two weeks after an unvaccinated child died of the disease amid one of the largest outbreaks the U.S. has witnessed in a decade.

Adjoining counties in northwest Texas and eastern New Mexico account for 256 cases of measles with 223 in Texas and 33 in New Mexico, respective state health authorities announced Tuesday.

The measles outbreak in West Texas is linked with cases in New Mexico, officials said Tuesday, as well as new cases reported in Oklahoma. This brings the total number of cases to 258 across three states.
