Victor Wembanyama is one of the faces of the NBA, the star of the San Antonio Spurs and already one of the biggest names in basketball around the world.

At 23-29, the Spurs occupy just the No. 12 seed in a crowded Western Conference. They are a scant 3.5 games behind the No. 10-seeded Golden State Warriors (28-27), but without their best player, they seem doomed now to miss the play-in tournament entirely and head straight for the lottery.

Those guys won't qualify for All-NBA or postseason awards. That could mean millions for whoever takes their place.

Wembanyama, in his second season after being selected first overall by San Antonio in the 2023 NBA Draft, has two years left on his rookie deal. Per Spotrac, he'll carry a $13,376,880 cap hit in 2025-26, then a $16,868,246 cap hit in 2026-27, when the Spurs are likely to exercise his team option.
