Cyclone Fengal is predicted to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the regions in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between Mahabalipuram and Karaikal as it makes landfall.

In anticipation of Cyclone Fengal and heavy rain, schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu's Kanchipuram district are closed. The India Meteorological Department warns of significant rainfall and strong winds as the cyclone nears landfall,

With Fengal set to make landfall, the Tamil Nadu government has urged residents to stay indoors and declared November 30 a holiday for educational institutions. IT companies have been advised to allow employees to work from home.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at several places, while extremely heavy rainfall is expected to lash isolated places in parts of northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under the influence of Cyclone Fengal.

Cyclone Fengal will likely become a cyclonic storm, causing heavy to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu. Schools in 11 districts, including Chennai and Puducherry, will be shut on November 29 and November 30.

Tamil Nadu's Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has stated that the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past the past six hours,

On the day of landfall, severe rainfall is expected in seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and neighbouring areas. Delta and northern interior districts are also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone - named Fengal, pronounced 'Feinjal' - and is likely to cross the Tamil Nadu coast between Karaikal and Mamallapuram mid-Saturday,

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Fengal will cross the Tamil Nadu - Puducherry coast sometime during the afternoon hours on Saturday.
