A judge in Georgia convicted Jose Ibarra of murdering Laken Riley after Ibarra waived his right to a jury trial.

Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard found Jose Ibarra guilty Wednesday on all 10 counts including malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with attempt to rape and other charges in relation to the death of Laken Riley.

Judge H. Patrick Haggard was swift and decisive in the verdict handed down against Jose Antonio Ibarra in an Athens-Clarke County courtroom, taking just several minutes to deliberate and ultimately reach the conclusion that convicted Ibarra on all 10 counts against him.

Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan national who Customs and Border Patrol sources tell NewsNation has ties to the Tren De Aragua gang, would spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, battery and tampering with evidence charges.

Riley’s family and friends tearfully remembered her and asked the judge to sentence Ibarra to the maximum penalty.
