As the incoming Trump administration prepares to make aggressive cuts to government spending, one major provision of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act appears to be on the chopping block: the consumer tax credit for purchasing an electric vehicle.

California's governor has proposed offering $7,500 state EV tax rebates to residents if Trump kills the federal EV tax credit.

Under current law, consumers can get a credit up to $7,500 for a new electric, plug in hybrid or fuel cell vehicle.
