Israel looks set to approve a U.S. plan for a ceasefire with the Iran-backed Hezbollah on Tuesday, a senior Israeli official said, clearing the way for an end to the war which has killed thousands of people since it was ignited by the Gaza conflict 14 months ago.

Israel’s security cabinet will vote Tuesday on a cease-fire agreement with Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials said, a deal that would end fighting that has destabilized Lebanon and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

Diplomats and other officials say there have been several sticking points in ceasefire talks in the war between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, even as conditions for an agreement appear to be ripe.
