STORRS - The UConn men's basketball team, no matter what, wasn't going to lose any of its first three games. The third-ranked Huskies struggled and beat New Haven in the opener, pummeled UMass Lowell and put forth both solid and sloppy versions of itself Monday night in an 89-62 victory over Columbia at Gampel Pavilion.

The two powerhouse teams last faced each other in the NCAA championship game back in April, which ended with the Huskies winning 82-59. It was revenge of sorts for UConn as South Carolina had beat them in the 2022 national title game. The two teams have combined to win eight of the last 12 national titles.

South Carolina women's basketball will play UConn at least once the next two seasons and Dawn Staley addressed those claiming Gamecocks "ducked" the series.
