As the opening Take That needle drop in “Anora” says, this could be the greatest day for Sean Baker. The filmmaker accepted the Oscar for best director at Sunday’s ceremony, taking home the prize for helming the wild indie success.

Sean Baker is having a Cinderella story of his own. From making phones on his iPhone to a whirlwind Pretty Woman riff about a sex worker from Brooklyn, Baker has been named the Best Director in Hollywood for Anora, the Academy decided. He added to a pretty sweet haul this year, also taking home Oscars for Best Editing and Original Screenplay.

"Anora's" Sean Baker urged the Hollywood community to invest in theatrical releases and support movie theaters, especially those that are independently run, during a passionate speech following his Best Director Oscar win at the 97th annual Academy Awards on Sunday.
