Days of snowfall across Northeast Ohio, mainly in the snow belt areas of Ashtabula and Lake counties, has resulted in snowed in houses, travel advisories and states of emergency for several communities.

A major lake-effect storm has buried parts of Northeast Ohio under several feet of snow. Here's the latest on the winter weather and this week's forecast.

(WJW) – A winter storm has been disrupting life in Northeast Ohio. Once the snow starts falling, local sheriffs declare snow emergencies to let people know the situation on the roads to keep everyone safe. Here’s what those levels mean, according to the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness:

ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Dialysis patients across Northeast Ohio are having trouble getting to their appointments. Mountains of snow are making travel difficult, and digging out is nearly impossible without some help. If these patients miss treatments, they could end up in the hospital.

While Cuyahoga County barely got touched by snow over the weekend – or in many areas missed it altogether - 56.2 inches was reported Sunday night by the National Weather Service in one spot of Ashtabula County. That’s 4 feet and 8 inches.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Lake effect snow bands will again determine what areas of Northeast Ohio will see the most significant snowfalls on Tuesday. The National Weather Service’s forecast calls for greatest snowfall totals by tomorrow evening to fall east of Cleveland.

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING continues for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake Co. until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Another 6 to 18″ of snow will be possible through Tuesday morning locally.
