The Devils practiced Tuesday following a dominating 5-1 win against their Hudson River Rivals, the New York Rangers, Monday night. New Jersey has three straight days without a game, a nice break in the schedule, as the Devils have played the most games in the NHL (28).

Before Devils forward Ondrej Palat gathered the puck off a turnover, Bratt put his head down and flew down the empty neutral zone. Rangers forward Artemi Panarin didn’t realize Bratt had him beaten by the time Bratt caught the pass to create a daunting two-on-one with Jack Hughes against New York defenseman K’Andre Miller.

Jesper Bratt had a goal and three assists, Jack Hughes scored twice and Jacob Markstrom made 39 saves as the New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers 5-1 on Monday night. Dawson Mercer and Dougie Hamilton also scored and Luke Hughes had two assists for the Devils,

Bratt took the puck on his own stick in a two-on-one breakaway, beating Shesterkin five-hole for the first goal of the game a minute-and-a-half in. It got the Devils out of their slew of slow starts leading into this game, showed they were too fast for the Rangers’ defense and were determined to put the gas on Shesterkin from puck drop.

The New Jersey Devils ran the New York Rangers out of Madison Square Garden in the first meeting of the Hudson River Rivalry. On the back of Jacob Markstrom who certainly silenced his critics, the veteran goaltender turned in his best performance of the season in a crucial moment.
