Eknath Shinde will continue to serve as the caretaker chief minister until a new government in Maharashtra is formed

As per reports, Devendra Fadnavis is likely to return as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as his deputies. Shinde, who had been negotiating to retain his position as the Chief Minister, is likely to settle for the Deputy CM role along with Pawar, The Indian Express reported.

The governor asked Shinde to act as a caretaker chief minister till a new CM is sworn in. The suspense over the chief minister's face continued despite the Mahayuti alliance securing a massive win.

Maharashtra Government Formation Live News Updates: While the BJP has not publicly declared its choice, there is aa push for Devendra Fadnavis, the Shiv Sena is advocating for Eknath Shinde to continue as Chief Minister.

Eknath Shinde, in a late night post, hinted towards stepping down as the present Chief Minister of the state. He also asked his supporters not to gather at Varsha Niwas or anywhere else to press the ruling Mahayuti alliance for his return to the chair.

Despite the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance securing a massive victory, consensus has eluded the ruling combine's leaders so far on who should be the next CM.
