U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron have jointly announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, aiming to halt over a year of hostilities along the Israeli-Lebanese border.

According to Lebanese officials, more than 3,700 people have been killed by Israel's intense bombing campaign, many of them civilians. On the Israeli side, over 130 people have been killed, local reports say.

Israel will gradually withdraw its forces over 60 days as Lebanon's army takes control of territory near its border with Israel to ensure that Hezbollah does not rebuild its infrastructure there, Biden said.
