Marshall Brickmam, who has died aged 85, was an Oscar- and BAFTA-winning screenwriter who helped redefine Woody Allen’s screen persona with his work on Annie Hall (1977) and Manhattan (1979).

The Oscar-winning screenwriter collaborated on comedies with Allen and directed movies of his own. He also co-wrote the book for the hit musical “Jersey Boys.”

In an interview, Mr. Allen describes the years he spent collaborating with Mr. Brickman, a friend, on beloved movies. Mr. Brickman died on Friday.

A former 'Tonight Show' head writer and "Dueling Banjos" performer, he and Woody Allen also partnered on 'Sleeper' and two other films.
