The healthcare executive and Maple Grove resident, shot and killed in New York on Wednesday morning, was remembered by coworkers and community members as a leader and devoted dad.

Mr. Thompson managed a division that employs about 140,000 people and offers insurance plans to employers and individuals.

Brian Thompson, 50, was an Iowa native and 1993 graduate of South Hamilton High School in Jewell. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting in 1997.
