According to a special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, or BMD, the deep depression was located 2,025km south-southwest of Chattogram seaport, 1,960km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport, 1,940km south-southwest of Mongla seaport, and 1,925km south-southwest of Payra seaport on Tuesday afternoon.

IMD issued an alert regarding a depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai announced on Tuesday that a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal could intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday, November 27.

If the deep depression intensifies into a cyclone, it will be named as Fengal, according to the rules of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) on naming cyclones.

The deep depression lay about 310 km southeast of Trincomalee, 590 km south-southeast of Nagappattinam, 710 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 800 km south-southeast of Chennai

A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is intensifying and expected to become a cyclonic storm, named Fengal, by November 27. It's currently southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and moving towards the Tamil Nadu coast.

Moving north-northwestwards at 12 km/h, the storm system is expected to bypass Sri Lanka’s coast and approach Tamil Nadu within the next two days. However, slightly cooler sea surface temperatures closer to the coastline could weaken the system marginally before landfall.
