Woolworths has lodged an application with Fair Work to stop striking workers from blocking access to its distribution centres in Victoria and NSW as the supermarket giant counts the cost of the workplace dispute.

The unions are hitting Woolworths right where it hurts, with the supermarket giant warning it has lost $50m in sales since the start of industrial action at four distribution centres last month which has seen many of its stores plagued with empty shelves,

The continuation of the strike into its second week reflects the determination of workers to fight. But to do so will require a rebellion against the United Workers Union bureaucracy.

A strike outside one of Woolworths’ distribution centres is now in its 13th day. Union members fighting for better pay and conditions have resolved to remain steadfast.

The ongoing supply chain strike has cost Woolworths a whopping $50 million in lost food sales over the past 12 days.

The grocery giant has apologised to customers as the 12-day strike by union workers continues to see empty shelves.
